(Learfield) Governor Tim Walz and legislative leaders met Tuesday and have not reached a budget deal. Both sides remain far apart on taxes and spending.
House Majority Leader Ryan Winkler says the "the extremism of Republican budgeting is really getting in the way our ability to come to a negotiated compromise."
House Minority Leader Kurt Daudt says it's not extreme to not raise taxes when you have a billion-dollar surplus.
Governor Walz is proposing a gas tax increase and extension to the two-percent health care provider tax. There is less than a week to come to an agreement before the session's May 20th deadline.
