River Levels Remain High

(KWNO) The wet fall has caused the Mississippi River to rise.
As of Wednesday morning, the National Weather Service has the river measured at over 12 feet above stage in Winona. An anticipated wet weekend will cause the river to crest at 12.5 feet above stage on October 13.
Despite flooding Front St., the elevated water spelled good news for barge traffic, which was halted due to low water levels in August. 116 barges passed through Winona in Septemeber, that outpaced last year’s September total of 74.
Overall 2019 barge traffic remains far below the pace set in recent years. In 2019, 525 barges have passed through Winona, which is far lower than last year’s 991 through September.
