A bill to replenish a near-empty disaster aid fund is heading to the House ahead of anticipated spring flooding. Lawmakers told a news conference this morning that the state’s Disaster Assistance Contingency Account is severely underfunded.

Representative Gene Pelowski says the money isn’t designed to fund disasters while lawmakers are in session. Governor Walz’s budget would allocate ten-million in the current fiscal year.

Representative Tony Jurgens says the bill would add 20-million dollars in the current fiscal year and another 20-million in the year that begins July 1st
