(Learfield) The Minnesota Wild fired general manager Paul Fenton today after just over a year on the job Tuesday.

Owner Craig Leipold thanked Fenton for his work but said he was "not the right fit" going forward. Leipold added he believes they have a good hockey team that will compete for a playoff spot this year and looks forward to hiring a G-M that will help win a Stanley Cup.

The Wild failed to make the Western Conference playoffs in the first season under G-M Fenton, and traded away a number of popular players.
