(KWNO) The Winona Transit Service will not collect fees until May 8.
The suspension of fee collection is to limit the contact that city bus drivers have with riders. Riders are urged to practice physical distancing, wear face masks or coverings, move directly to and from their seat, and avoid touching any unnecessary surfaces or close interactions with others as much as possible.
The measure was passed during a city council meeting held over Zoom on Monday. It was the first remote meeting of the council in its history, according to Winona Mayor Mark Peterson.
Bus routes are running during their normal hours, with some trips being eliminated to allow drivers to disinfect their buses.
“The city is doing everything that it can to protect the people here in Winona to make sure the services can continue,” said Peterson.
