(KWNO) The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MN DOT) will host a virtual meeting tonight to get feedback and educate residents on their plans for the Mankato Ave. Reconstruction Project.
MN DOT’s plan calls for adding four roundabouts to Mankato Ave’s. intersections with Sarnia St., Frontenac Dr., Riverbend Dr., and Highway 61. Sen. Jeremy Miller (R-Winona) told KWNO Thursday he’s heard from constituents who’ve expressed concern over the project, particularly changing the stoplights to a roundabout at the intersection with Highway 61.
"They told me they would think about a public meeting. A week and a half went by, nothing more from MN DOT. I finally released a public statement saying we have to have another public meeting to inform the public on what’s going on and get input from the public. Finally, this week MN DOT did announce that they're going to have a virtual open house,” Miller said.
During an interview on KWNO's In the Know Wednesday, Mayor Mark Peterson said MN DOT's plan isn't set in stone.
"They still need municipal consent for at least three of the four roundabouts. Likely not the one at Highway 61, 43, and Mankato Ave. but the other three touch city property," said Peterson.
The meeting will take place on Oct. 21 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. To register for the meeting, click here.
