(KWNO) The Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office will not respond to calls of individuals who violate Gov. Tony Evers’s mask mandate.
In a letter to county residents, Sheriff Brett Semingson says he’s seen citizens taking actions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Semingson believes the goal of the order is compliance through education and is not meant to be punitive.
Deputies will respond to calls to remove individuals that violate and refuse to leave the premise of businesses requiring a face covering.
According to data from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Trempealeau County has the sixth-highest positive cases per 100,000 residents' rate throughout Wisconsin. Gov. Evers’s mask order went into effect on Aug. 1.
