WAPS Statement on School Reopening Guidelines

(KWNO) Winona Area Public Schools (WAPS) has not announced their instruction plans following updated back to school guidelines released by Gov. Tim Walz Thursday.
In a statement on social media, WAPS says in-person learning is a strong possibility but it will depend on the number of COVID-19 cases within the county. The district will consult with state health and education officials before announcing their instruction model, which could change based on the local spread of the virus.
“Right now, elementary would be in the recommendations of fully opening,” Winona County Emergency Management Director Ben Klinger said during an interview on KWNO’s In the Know Friday.
WAPS Spokesman John Casper told KWNO this week that WAPS will follow the recommendations from the state.
Per the executive order, the instruction decision will be made by the district.
