The Winona City Council voted unanimously to approve improvements to Winona’s trail system in its first meeting of 2019.
The Parks Department laid out improvements to the city council that will range in cost from $2.67 million to $3.18 million. The city will hope to use grants to fund the projects.
The plan calls for improvements to Sugar Loaf, Bluffside Park, Garvin Heights, and adding miles of paved and unpaved pedestrian and bike trails.
Other aspects of the approved plan include implementing a marketing plan, engaging youth groups to use the trails, maintain and add programming, and integrating a police force to help people with the changes and prevent any illegal use of the new trails.
