Leonard C. Millard
Leonard C. Millard, 81, of St. Charles, MN passed away unexpectedly in Wendover, NVearly Friday, April 6. He was born on January 5, 1937, at home, in Eyota, MN to LeRoy and Vera (Britzius) Millard and was one of four boys. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1955 and joined the US Army Reserve in 1956. He served for six years in the 330th MP Battalion, and, along with his brother Rowland had the honor of being security for a local Eisenhower/Stevenson debate during the 1957 election tour. He married Sandra (Fort) in 1959, together they had 4 children and later divorced. In 1992, he married LeAnn (Schaefer). They enjoyed three years together, until she passed away from a lengthy illness. Leonard loved Lee (Poppen) for 18 years before they married in 2014. Leonard was a local businessman and served on the St. Charles City Council and other civic committees.
His hobbies included, traveling to casinos with his beloved wife, going to auctions and solving the world’s problems one cup of coffee at a time.
He will be sorely missed by his family and a large group of friends, including his revolving table of coffee buddies. Leonard knew everyone and was loved by many for his kind and generous heart. He would do anything for anybody and was very generous with his time and efforts for his family, friends, and community, including the Winona County Fair, Faith Lutheran Church and the St. Charles School District. He will be remembered for being hard-working, lighthearted and playful.
Leonard is survived by his loving wife, Lee, four children; James, Susan (Donnie) Dahl, Jeffrey and Kristine (Dan) Gardner; two step-daughters; Janette (Todd) Bever and Terry (Scott) Lambert; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers Rowland (Cora) and Maynard Millard. He was preceded in death by his parents LeRoy and Vera, wife LeAnn, step-son Eddie, step-daughter Sheryl, step-granddaughter Kristi, brother Dayton and sister-in-law Edrie. Funeral Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Faith Lutheran Church in St. Charles with the Reverend Steve McGinley officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Dover. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Hoff Funeral Service in St. Charles. They may also call one hour before services at the church on Friday. Military graveside honors will be provided by St. Charles American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War groups.
